Description

After I dropped Maerin off back at the house, I loaded my truck up headed back to the road. I was done finals, had a year paid off on that house, and was ready to hit the surf. At one of the local convenience stores I picked up an energy drink, like I usually do, though they were out of my normal brand, so I grabbed the next closest thing.

I hopped back in my car and drove to the beach. I parked behind the dunes in my usual spot, I’d have driven on the beach today, but the turtle fences were up and I didn’t want to have to pay a citation on my first day of break. I popped open the energy drink as I got my surfboard out the back of my car and went up the walkway. As I drank it I noticed it had a weird smell, like almost a fishy scent to it, but that could also have been the tide going out as well, dismissing it as nothing I guzzled and moved along.

Setting up my towel and finishing off the drink, I had a very strange wave of pain in my stomach; I couldn’t tell if it was anxiety or a real pain. As I stood there looking out at the ocean, the pain grew, like a huge knot in my stomach, I had a very bad feeling about it. It only grew worse when I picked up the can, I could almost feel that whatever I had came from the can, didn’t I even read the label?

I lifted my sunglasses up and read the label again, but I found no weird ingredients but yet i was now sweating profusely. Even as I looked, I wasn't aware I was allergic to anything in it. The only thing that off was the smell....and that it was the only one in the store… and the fact I had never seen the brand before.

I've always thought his trigger was one of the most unique I've come across. I like how he looks contemplative here with his sunglasses lifted.
